Volvo’s crash-test laboratory in Torslanda turns 10 this year – and the almost 3000 full-scale tests that have been carried out during the high-tech facility’s first decade have helped give Volvo owners some of the safest cars. “We can replicate most of the incident and accident scenarios that take place out on the roads. By analyzing these and then testing new safety technology in the crash-test laboratory, we can improve the safety level in our cars so that they become even safer in real-life traffic conditions,” says Thomas Broberg, Senior Safety Advisor at Volvo. When the new safety center was inaugurated by Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf in early 2000, it was one of the most advanced in the car industry – a position it has retained over the years thanks to the continuous implementation of new equipment and new test methods. The latest technology infusion is in the form of a set of digital high-speed cameras that can take 200000 frames per second.

In a sunny day, the van driver slowly turned right on the road and then slightly hit a taxi, which taxi turned left in secret. Two driver pulled over the cars and argued the responsibility. The taxi driver claimed lots of scratches, in the left side, caused by that hit, and asked to compensate. The van driver checked these scratches and found right side of the taxi also appeared many scratches. He realized the taxi driver could squeez compensation out of him. The van driver knew he should had the video to show the entire accident due to a car-event recorder (called Zaptub Action DV) and told the taxi driver this. He also suggested to call the police to solve the argument. The taxi driver found there was no chance to extort the van driver. The taxi driver gave up and left soon. This might be the situation happened as driving someday. I am happy to have a ZAPTUB to catch the evident. ps ()

Raser Technologies, Inc. will join with California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today to demonstrate Rasers Electric Hummer H3, designed to achieve 100 mpg for a typical daily drive of 60 miles. The H3 uses an extended range electric vehicle (E-REV) powertrain developed by Raser Technologies. The Hummer H3 is a mid-sized SUV, similar in size to a Jeep Commander. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will view the new plug-in electric Hummer H3 at the California State Capitol Thursday in a demonstration drive with Raser Chairman Kraig Higginson.

The Tesla Model S was unveiled in California on the 26th of March and was quite impressive. With a 300-mile range on a single charge, 5 seats and a recharge-time of 45 minutes it’s basically the first real electric car for everyone. Perhaps the most interesting part is the price which is more than half the price of the Tesla Roadster. The Tesla Model S will cost 49 900 $ when delivery to customers starts in 2011. They are already planning a 3rd model which will cost only 30 000 $.
