If you took a 1960 Rambler and use the techknology of today we could havs decent size cars that get excellent mpg and have adequate power.

Because when you are at highway speeds you are only using the gasoline motor.

In the city as you stop and go the electrical charges and discharges repeatedly. So you are actually just using the battery’s for most of the power not the gasoline.

i live in buffalo ny and i want to trade in my current subaru for a newer one. this one is starting to go and i want to get another 5spd awd car. my car gets 22/27 mpg now. any other makes or models get equal or better mpg
p.s. in buffalo we get a good amount of snow and i have to travel a lot. fwd cars wont make it well in buffalo :)

i’m sure you know that these are just prototype cars. i mean these are usually one seater vehicle that sits lower to the ground than anything on the road. Theres is no way it can be legally driven on roads.

so far honda insight is the has the best fuel economy
60 mpg city and 66 mpg highway. This is due to its hybrid engine and its ability to run only on one cylinder when cruising on the highway.

SUVs get some of the worst mileage, so why not require a bigger improvement rather than only 2MPG There are smaller and hybrid SUVs available that do get better mileage.

This rule was put in place to get older less efficient WORK TRUCKS traded in for newer, more efficient, lower emission trucks. Unfortunately, the automobile industry still has enough pull in D.C. that SUVs are still legalistically recognized as trucks…..

I can find MPG Ratings for all the cars made after 1981 but that is the earliest I wish i could find the MPG Data for the Muscle Cars from that time ( Stock ) that is anybody know of any site

No, because there were no published ratings for cars at that time. If you read old review in Popular Mechanics or Popular Science, they usually showed the mileage the car got as they tested it.

Hybrid cars are cars that are powered by an electric battery as well as a gasoline engine. A hybrid vehicle contains parts of both gasoline and electric vehicles in an attempt to get the best of both worlds. With these configurations, hybrid cars are able to have a fuel mileage of 60-70 mpg as compared to 20-40 in conventional cars. Hybrid cars are particularly fuel efficient in the city, but they are also suitable for country trips. Examples were cited of how they are being used as delivery vehicles around the city such as pizza or postal deliveries. Hybrid cars are powered by internal combustion engines, but are also equipped with batteries recharged during driving and an electric motor to assist with power demand. Hybrids do not need to be plugged in, yet they deliver exceptional mileage compared to their gas-only counterparts.

Hybrid cars are also designed to be more aerodynamic than most cars, allowing them to “slice” through air instead of pushing it out of the way.
