I think because Japanese care more about improvement and are able to think ahead. That fact raises their competitiveness on the market and it lessens Japanese car owners’ dependency on oil…
    you know what I mean?..

Not only because of the smaller engines, but mainly because of the VVTi (variable valve timing). The way the car changes gears is done in a more fuel efficient way while helping to give better throttle response as well as improved fuel economy. Some other factors may be better intakes on Japanese cars.

It was that way in the past, not so much anymore. American cars now have very competitive MPG ratings. In the past it was that way because fuel in the US was cheap and americans would pay it, in other words there was a market for the vehicles they were producing. Japanese car manufacturers in there home country did not have the cheap fuel prices that the US did therefor they built cars that would sell in there market.

Because they aren’t stupid enough to buy trucks and SUV’s when gas costs $3.00 a gallon!!!

I don’t think they do. Chevy has more cars that get 30+ mpg than any other maker and my Ford gets 33 mpg and thats better than a camary or Honda Accord.

From my experience yes. Fuel is much cheaper in the USA and is less of a factor than many other countries.

alote of reasons valve timing, 4 gear transmissions instead of 5 or six gears, direct injection (when the gas is squirted directly into the combustion chamber of each cylinder) and all other aspects of the car wheel weight, inflation suspension rotating stuff under the hood (water pump, and other pulley like systems) all contribute to better mpg and alote of american cars are not made to a Standard where all the components work well together but the cars are getting a little better but the american car industry should die and be reborn better and stronger.
